Getting started

Let’s take a look at some videos filmed at the Cool FAB Racing British Minibikes Championships in 2018. These start with a bit about the Academies mentioned below and then some of the 2018 race events.     Spend as little or as long you like watching just to have an idea of the racing, the classes, the rider ages, and the circuits.   Click on the links (Yellow) below.

Academy - Round 1 - Round 2 - Round 3 - Round 4 - Round 5 - Round 6 - Round 7 - Round 8

If it all looks a bit daunting don't worry, there is always a great deal of help and advice available both before you start and while you are at any meeting.     The organisers, other riders, and rider's parents and friends will all be willing to help.

There are currently 2 “Academies” that can advise and train beginners and even more advanced riders of all ages.       The contact details for these are at the bottom of the page.     Machines and protective clothing will be available to hire at the venues.       Always best to pre-book though.

These Academies are close to each other but usually run on different weekends.     Cool FAB is looking to have additional ways of providing try outs and pre-racing instruction in the future.     As with the Academies machines and protection will be available to hire at the venues.

You will need a race Minimoto, Metrakit MiniGP50 or 70, or one of the adult class bikes to be able to practice or compete at any of the open circuit race events.   There are practice sessions for all classes run on the Friday before the weekend race days and these can be an ideal opportunity to see that you are happy to compete on the Saturday and Sunday. They will also assess that they are happy with your ability to be safe to compete, both for yourself and other competitors.     With Friday practice paid separately to the main weekend races you can decide to race or not after that.

Cool FAB Racing runs five Junior classes.   Three Minimoto and two Metrakit MiniGP and these make a racing progression starting from as young as 6 years with the Academies starting from 5:
