Getting Started

Getting Started with FAB Racing. Ready to Ride? Here is How to Start.

So, you want to get on the grid? Whether you are a parent looking to get your child onto their first bike, or an adult looking for high-adrenaline competition, we have a path for you.

While many riders come to us with their own machines, we know that getting started requires guidance. Below is everything you need to know about training academies, equipment, and your first race weekend.

Step 1: Learn the Basics (The Academies)

If you are new to the sport, we strongly recommend visiting one of our partner "Academies." These are the perfect places to learn bike control and safety before entering the paddock.

Note: Always pre-book your sessions with these academies.

1. M4 Minimotos (Chippenham)

Based in Hullavington, M4 has a prestigious history of producing top-tier riders, including British Superbike stars Fraser Rogers and Charlie Nesbitt and many others.

  • Who is it for? Children from age 5.5 years.
  • When: The Race School generally runs from October through March on Sunday mornings.
  • The Goal: The school aims to prepare riders for the FAB Racing AC40 Rookies Class. This allows riders to get used to competition without the high pressure of a full Championship.
  • Advanced Training: Wednesday evening classes are available for experienced riders with their own bikes.
  • Contact: M4 Minimoto Junior Race School | M4 Minimoto

2. MiniGP Yorkshire (Brighouse)

Located just north of Huddersfield, this facility offers a complete pathway from toddler to racer.

  • Revvi Balance Bikes: For children as young as 2 years old to start on two wheels under coach supervision.
  • Junior Academy Minimoto: For children aged 5+. This is a four-week session designed to teach the fundamentals of riding.
  • Schedule: Runs on multiple occasions throughout the year. Dates are advertised via their Instagram and Facebook accounts.

Step 2: Your First FAB Racing Weekend

Once you are ready to graduate from the academies to the FAB Racing paddock, here is how it works.

What you need: To race with FAB-Racing, you will need your own machine. This includes:

  • A race compliant Minimoto
  • A Metrakit MiniGP50 or MiniGP70 or equivalent Ohvale (GP-0 160)
  • Or an eligible Adult class bike

We run practice sessions on the Friday before every race weekend.

  • Assessment: This is the ideal opportunity to test your ability. FAB staff will assess your safety and competence to ensure you are ready to compete with other riders.
  • Flexibility: Friday practice is paid for separately from the main weekend racing. If you (or the FAB team) feel you aren't quite ready for the Saturday/Sunday races, you are under no obligation to compete.
  • Licensing: You do not need a race license just to get started on the Friday practice days.

We host distinct classes catering to age, experience, and machine type.
